Security Features

There are twelve new security features embedded in the new card design. Although we can’t tell you about all of them, here are some that we can share with you. There is a ghost portrait of the card holder in the lower right hand corner of the card. A Guilloche security design is present in several locations on the face of the card. There is micro-print across the bottom of the card. The card has a Zia design laser perforation, which can be seen with the naked eye by holding the card up to the light or shining a light through the card from behind. Also, before any card is produced and mailed to the applicant, Facial Recognition technology is used to compare the applicant’s photo to their own previous photo and to every other driver’s or ID card holder’s photo in MVD’s database.
